Fruit is IN SEASON and delicious right now!  Have you ever looked at fresh pineapples in the store…and been intimidated?  Look for these signs that a pineapple is ripe and ready to eat NOW:

  • Sweet, succulent pineapple smell at the base of the fruit and the crown insert point.  No sweet fragrance?  Don’t cut it open just yet, check it daily for ripening.
  • Slight give to the overall firmness.
  • Simple tug on the leaves will pull some out.

You can cut one with these simple steps:

  • Cut the top and base off to create a flat bottom to the fruit.
  • Shave down each side of the pineapple to remove the rest of the skin.
  • Cut in large pieces to keep the servings juicy and fresh, or dice smaller to remove the core if needed in a recipe.
